Dr Ross Sharpe

Dr. Ross Sharpe is an experienced cardiologist with more than 20 years of clinical practice and over 15 years dedicated to providing regional cardiac services to rural communities. Through his work with Outreach Hearts, he is committed to improving access to specialist cardiac care by supporting heart health testing and diagnostic services delivered directly within regional clinics.

Dr. Sharpe holds qualifications in endovascular, coronary, and structural cardiac interventions and was the first cardiologist in Australia recognized by the Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons, and Radiologists as trained in Endovascular Interventions.

He has been actively involved in the development and teaching of interventional cardiology techniques and regularly proctors junior cardiologists in new procedures.

Dr. Sharpe’s research interests focus on the relationship between cardiovascular disorders and neurological disease. He is Chair of the PFO Research Foundation, an international research consortium investigating the role of 'omic' variations in Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) disease states, including stroke and migraine.

He also serves on several US medical device company advisory boards and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University, Australia.

Dr. Sharpe initially studied engineering before completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland, bringing a strong technical and analytical perspective to his clinical and interventional cardiology practice.

Dr Shawn Kelly

Dr. Shawn Kelly is an experienced cardiologist specializing in heart health testing, with expertise in both interventional cardiology and advanced cardiac diagnostic imaging. He offers a comprehensive range of cardiac investigations, including exercise stress testing, stress echocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, diagnostic left and right heart catheterisation, and percutaneous coronary interventions.

Dr. Kelly has a strong interest in the assessment and management of valvular heart disease and ischaemic heart disease, focusing on delivering accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

In addition to his cardiology practice, Dr. Kelly has extensive clinical experience in regional cardiac services. He has worked as a general physician at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, contributing to the care of patients across a broad range of medical conditions and supporting multidisciplinary hospital teams.

Dr. Kelly is now expanding his role as an interventional cardiologist, which enhances access to specialist cardiac care for patients requiring advanced coronary procedures. His clinical approach combines thorough diagnostic assessment with contemporary interventional therapies to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care.

Lesa King

Lesa is our senior cardiac sonographer with over 15 years of experience in echocardiography and non-invasive cardiac testing. She has worked extensively across hospital and private practice settings and is committed to delivering high-quality cardiac diagnostics with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and patient care, particularly in heart health testing.

While working alongside Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Ross Sharpe, Lesa recognized the significant barriers many rural and regional communities face in accessing timely cardiac investigations. This awareness led her to collaborate with Dr. Sharpe in the development of Outreach Hearts, aimed at providing specialist cardiac care and bringing regional cardiac services closer to patients who would otherwise need to travel long distances for care.

Lesa is passionate about improving access to cardiovascular diagnostics and is dedicated to ensuring that patients in rural and remote communities receive the same high standard of cardiac testing available in metropolitan centers. Through Outreach Hearts, she works closely with local healthcare providers to deliver professional, reliable, and patient-focused cardiac services within the community.
